Evelyn Mary Breaux Michel, 95, a native of Chacahoula, La. and resident of The Woodlands, Tx., for the past 10 years, died at her home Sunday, April 29, 2007.

She is survived by one daughter, Paulette Guion and husband, Jim, of The Woodlands; two sons, Thomas Michel of Pineville, La. and Daniel Michel of Lafayette, La.; one sister, Jeanne Breaux Crochet of Houma, La.; dearly loved by eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and cherished by nieces, nephews and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Nolan Joseph Michel; and parents, Sadie Adoue and Henry Breaux.

Determined and courageous, she traveled by train to Lafayette where she earned a teaching degree in 1940 from Southwestern Louisiana. She took her first teaching job at Dularge Graded and in the years that followed used her talents serving elementary-age children. Many of her students from Dularge, Schriever, Donner, Gibson, Houma Elementary and Honduras School learned their basics in her classroom.

She will be remembered for her dancing, cooking, crocheting and traveling, but will be most remembered as our momma, maw maw, big nanny, sister, friend Evelyn and teacher.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt.

She was a member of Terrebonne Parish Retired Teachers Association.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Foundation, P.O. Box 44290, Lafayette, LA 70504, or St. Francis de Sales School Library Fund, 300 Verret St., Houma, LA 70360.
