Harris Joseph Dufrene, 78, a native of Gheens, La., and resident of Cut Off, La., died at 10:10 p.m. Friday, July 16, 2010.


Mr. Dufrene was a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council #3150, Holy Name Society and he served as an usher. His passion in life was farming and caring for his family and many animals. He enjoyed wrestling, rodeos and old westerns. He was a successful business owner from 1976-2004 with his company, Harris Dufrene Enterprise LLC.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret Pennison Dufrene; sons, Steve and Andrew Dufrene; daughters, Judy Ordoyne, Rudy Ordoyne, Helen Bourg, Ann Callais, Leona Vegas and Grace Melancon; brothers, Whitney, Clifton and Sergent Dufrene; sisters, Celestine Dufrene, Winnie Breaux, Joyce Vedros, Rose Billiot and Janet Billiot; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents Harris and Lucia Dufrene; two brothers, Herman and Norman Dufrene; and one grandson, Andy Joy Dufrene.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, July 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cut Off. Mass will be held at 12 p.m. with burial at the church cemetery.
