Hazel M. Washington, 59, a native and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Wednesday, March 25.


She is survived by her common law husband, Alvin Monroe of Thibodaux; sisters, Betty Van Buren of Thibodaux, Henrietta Parker of Opelousas, La., and Shirley Smith of Raceland, La.; and brother, Roy Williams of Thibodaux.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Ruby Hawkins; brother, Charles Hawkins Jr.; sister, Ethel B. Washington; grandparents, Rebecca D. Hawkins and Samuel Hawkins Sr.; and nephew, Ivory Robinson Jr.

She was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church. Her hobbies included gardening.

A religious service was held Saturday, April 4, at Morning Star Baptist Church in Thibodaux followed by burial at the church cemetery.

Kennedy Funeral Home of Raceland is in charge of the arrangements.
