Jeffrey J. LeBlanc, 87, a native of Morganza, La., and a resident of Lockport, La., died quietly in his home after a lengthy illness Sunday, February 3, 2008, at 6:20 p.m.

He is survived by his wife, Leone Hebert LeBlanc; sons, Jeffrey LeBlanc Jr. and wife, Betty, Dexter LeBlanc and wife, Bobbie, Bradley LeBlanc and John LeBlanc and wife, Fay; daughter, Renee Foret and husband, Ronnie; sister, Vivian Mayet; ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Clement LeBlanc Sr. and Alzina G. LeBlanc; and brothers, Jessie and Clement LeBlanc Jr.


Jeffrey graduated from Lockport High School in 1936, Southwestern Louisiana Institute (ULL) in 1939, Tulane University with a Juris Doctorate in 1948 and a Masters of Education degree in 1959.

He served as Mayor of Lockport from 1952 to 1960 and briefly again in 1994 to 1995. He retired from the Lafourche Parish School Board with 44 years of service, during which time he worked as a history teacher, guidance counselor, principal, supervisor and Superintendent of Schools, the position from which he retired in 1985.


He participated in the D-Day invasion and served as a hospital administrator in London and Paris during World War II. He retired from active duty in 1952 and was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953.

In 1959, he published The History of Lockport Louisiana, and updated it in 1999 for the town’s centennial celebration. He was also active in many civic and religious organizations throughout his life.

He was a member of the American Legion and VFW and a parishioner of Holy Savior Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Lafourche Educational Foundation, P.O. Box 529, Thibodaux, La. 70302.

Visitation will be 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 06, 2008, at Falgout Funeral Home in Lockport and from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008, at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Lockport with mass to follow. He will be buried in the church cemetery.

Falgout Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
