Mr. John “Big John” Wilson, Sr., 54, a native of Terrebonne Parish and a resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, Nov. 11, 2006.


Visitation will be held from 9 to 1 p.m. Saturday, November 18, 2006, at Mechanicville Emmanuel Baptist Church in Houma with funeral at 1 p.m. and burial at the church cemetery.


He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sears Wilson of Houma; six sons, John (Melissa) Wilson, Jr., Jeconiah Sears, Tyrone Wilson, Marcus Wallace, John F. Wilson II, and Caleb Wilson, all of Houma; three daughters, Anglea (Craig) Stewart, Dewanda Wilson, and Sheraton (Renee) Jones, all of Houma; one brother, Freddie Wilson Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif.; three sisters, Ora Wilson of Los Angeles, Calif., Rose Callowy, and Geraldine Townsend both of Houma; and 18 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Victoria Porter and Freddie Wilson Sr.; his daughter, Jonesha Wilson; sister, Barbara Jones, and grandparents, Ora and Daniel Porter.

Mr. Wilson was a baptist and member of the Mechanville Emmanuel Baptist Church. He was U.S. Army National Guard Veteran and enjoyed body building and jogging. He was also the Welterweight Boxing Champion in 1970.
