Joseph “Captain Joe” Anslum, 73, a native of New Orleans, La., and resident of Patterson, La., died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2011.

Mr. Anslum spent 40 years as a tug boat captain until his retirement in 2007. He was a man of simple pleasures and held true to the values of hard work and accountably. He had a passion and dedication to his family that was unwavering. He was a practical joker who loved to laugh and make others laugh.


He is survived by his wife, Mary Anslum; brother, William (Judy) Anslum; children, Terry (Lorie), Kimberly and Chad (Rebecca) Anslum, Jolene (Kirk) Guillory and Celeste (Greg) Williams; stepdaughters, Delia Voisin and Virgie Norman; stepsons, Samuel and John William; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one step-daughter; one sister; one brother; and one brother-in-law. (Hargrave)
