Joseph Osceola “Wydell” Misshore Jr., 75, died Monday, March 3, 2008.

He was the great nephew of Gertrude Geddes Willis; father of Belva Misshore Pichon, Joseph O. Misshore III and Wydell M. Misshore; brother-in-law of Dorothy Martel Labat; father-in-law of Walter G. Pichon III; five grandchildren, Kathleen E. Pichon, Kristine M. Pichon, Matthew G. Pichon, Stephen Paul Martel Pichon and Michael Alan Misshore; and his extended family, Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home, Gertrude Geddes Willis Life Insurance Co., Terrebonne Funeral Home Staff, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friend, Raymond Lassie, and other relatives and friends.


He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Martel Misshore; his parents, Joseph O. Misshore Sr. and Maude Vandage; one daughter, Cathy Elizabeth Misshore; and one brother, Willis J. Misshore.


He was owner, president and chairman of the board of Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home and Life Insurance Co. in New Orleans, La., and Houma, La., and Terrebonne Funeral Home in Houma.

Relatives and friends of the family, also priest, parishioners, pastors, officers and members of Holy Ghost, Blessed Sacrament, St. Frances Xavier Catholic Churches, St. John Institutional M.B.C., Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, First Street United Methodist Church and all neighboring churches, employees, faculty and staff of Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home and Insurance Co., Terrebonne Funeral Home, G.G.W. Federal Credit Union, Liberty Bank and Trust Co., Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club, Young Men of Olympian, E.O. Moss Grand Assembly (Third & Fourth Degree), Knights of Peter Claver, Alumni of Booker T. Washington High School, Crescent City Funeral Directors of Embalmers, National Funeral Directors Louisiana, Original Illinois Social Club, Studs Club, Bunch Club and National Insurance Association (NIA) are invited to attend the visitation and funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Dillard University, 2601 Gentilly Blvd., New Orleans, La. 70122, and Xavier University, 1 Drexel Drive, New Orleans, La. 70125.

Visitation will be 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, March 10, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Louisiana Avenue followed by mass. He will be buried at St. Louis Cemetery No. 3 in New Orleans.

Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
