Joyce Sampay Book, 82, a native of Matthews, La., and a resident of Gibson, La., died Friday, July 3, after a lengthy illness.


She is survived by her son, Michael J. Book and wife Ola M. Book of Erath, La.; daughter, Doreen B. Arceneaux and husband Jack J. Arceneaux Sr. of Lafayette, La; sister, Virginia Wade of Houma, La.; grandsons, Michael J. Book Jr. of Gibson, Brandon M. Trahan of Houma, Jack J. Arceneaux Jr., Christopher J. Arceneaux and Matthew R. Arceneaux, all from Lafayette; granddaughters; Amy B. McNeely of Hickory, N.C., Cyndi Guidry of New Iberia, La., and Melanie Suire of Erath; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Book, Caleb Trahan, Mason Trahan, Connely McNeely, Anna McNeely, Kameron Arceneaux, Brittney Suire, Morghan Guidry, Jadyn Guidry and Lane Guidry.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John A. Book Jr. of Ferriday, La.; parents, Wilkin and Edna Sampay of Gibson; brothers, Junius Sampay of Buras, La., and Roy Sampay of Gibson; sister, Alverta Pitre of Chacahoula, La.; and grandson, Jeremy James Trahan of Bayou Black, La.


Pall Bearers will be her grandsons, Michael J. Book Jr., Brandon M. Trahan, Jack J. Arceneaux Jr., Christopher J, Arceneaux and Matthew R. Arceneaux; and great-grandson, Nicholas Book. Honorary Pall Bearers are her great-grandsons, Caleb M. Trahan, Mason J. Trahan and Connely McNeely.

She enjoyed bowling, and fishing and her faithful companion, her dog Tabby.

Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 6, and 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Chauvin Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Tuesday at the funeral home chapel.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
