Joyeuse “Joy” Laurents Weldon, 97, a native of Lake Arthur, La., and resident of Thibodaux, La., died Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.


Mrs. Weldon attended Peabody College and graduated as a registered nurse. She lived through the Great Depression and appreciated the simple things in life such as working in her yard, traveling, eating out, crocheting, sewing and spending time with her family. She was a devout Catholic who served her church community as a religious teacher, Eucharistic minister and prayer line volunteer.


She is survived by her son, Joseph Weldon Jr.; sister, Alice Kelly; one granddaughter; two step-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Weldon Sr.; companion, Dave Barrios; parents, Gustave Laurents and Adele Champagne; son, Ernest Weldon; brothers, Robert and Gustave Jr. Laurents; and sister, Adele Flash.

Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at Landry’s Funeral Home in Thibodaux and 8 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24, at Christ the Redeemer Church in Thibodaux. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Thibodaux. (Landry’s)
