Katherine Furr Stringer Cancienne, a longtime resident of Houma, La., and resident of Houston, died Thursday, Feb. 4, 2010.


Mrs. Cancienne was a retired Terrebonne Parish teacher.

She is survived by two children, Martha (Jim) Hebert and Mark (Susan) Stringer; stepson, L. Milton (Cheryl) Cancienne; stepdaughter, Ann Gentry; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Stringer and Lawrence Cancienne; daughter, Ann Stringer Parish; her parents; and two siblings.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the United Methodist Women, c/o First United Methodist Church, 6109 La. Highway 311, Houma, LA 70360, or the Terrebonne Retired Teachers’ Association Scholarship Fund, 1450 St. Charles St., Houma, LA 70360-3935.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, at First United Methodist Church in Houma.

Claire Brothers Funeral Home in Houston is in charge of arrangements.
