L.D. Merritt, 86, a native of Kitts, Ky., and resident of Gray, La., died at 11:10 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010.


Mr. Merritt was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran and served on the USS Carlson in the South Pacific.


He is survived by his son, Carl (Sarah) Edward Merritt; daughter-in-law, Kathryn M. Merritt; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and 1 step-great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine Martin Merritt; son, L.D. Merritt Jr.; one infant son; parents, Bill Merritt and Bertha May Douglas Merritt Walker; and one brother, Andrew Jackson Merritt.

He is buried at Anderson Memorial Gardens in Clinton, Tenn.
