Mabel Hebert Matherne, 95, a native of Terrebonne Parish and a resident of Houma, La., died Wednesday, March 26, at 5:50 p.m.


She is survived by her son, Blaise Matherne and wife, Rosemary, of Houma; sisters, Barbara Gautreaux of Chauvin, La., and Olive LeBlanc of Houma; grandchildren, Tina Fanguy and husband, Jerome, of Dulac, La., Jody Matherne and wife, Tammy, Kayla Matherne, Katrina Hood and husband, Greg, of Houma, Julia Camadine and husband, George, of Georgia; great-grandchildren, Shana Matherne, Andre and Mya Fanguy, Kristie Colby, Haley Matherne, Gregory and Opal Hood, Jill Hood, Brandon, Bradley and Eric Camadine; and one great-great-grandchild.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Matherne; her parents, Alphonse Hebert and Elodie Brunet Hebert; daughter, Gail Hoover; brothers, Rufus Hebert and Philip Hebert; and sister, Jackie LeBouef.

She was a retired schoolteacher and taught many years at Dulac Indian School, St. Francis de Sales and Grand Caillou Elementary. She was a parishioner of Holy Rosary Catholic Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at Chauvin Funeral Home with mass to follow. She will be buried at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
