Marie E. Toups, 102, a resident and native of Lockport, LA., died at 8 p.m. Saturday, January, 20, 2007.


Visitation will be from 8 to 10:30 a.m. funeral time, in which a mass will take place, Tuesday at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Lockport. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

She is survived by one niece, Mary Alice Van Sickle; three nephews, Francis M. Toups, Emile J. Toups, and Larry E. Toups, and also many great neices and great nephews.


She is preceded in death by her parents, Edgar T. and Alice Barrilleaux Toups; two brothers, Edgar J. and Emile F. Toups; one sister, Ida T. Foret; one neice, Patricia F. DeGravelles, and one nephew, George “Buddy” Toups.

She was a parishoner of Holy Savior Catholic Church in Lockport.

She spent her entire life in Lafourche Parish involved in the education system of Lafourche schools for 19 years as a teacher, 22 years as principal of District No. 7, and one year as principal of Holy Savior for a total of 42 years. She was active in community service organizations such as the American Legion Auxillary, the Ladies Altar Society, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the V.F.W. auxillary.

She was awarded the Lions Club Citizen of the Year for 1972, and she was also an active worker of the voting polls during election time.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Holy Savior School of Lockport will be appreciated.
