Michael James “Joe Black” Richard Sr., 53, a resident of Houma, LA., died Monday, March 12, 2007.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. funeral time Saturday, March 17, 2007 at Community Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Halfway Cemetery in Gray, LA.


He is survived by his wife, Betty Francois Richard; his sons, Dontrell and Michael Richard J. Jr., Cedrick Davis and Troy Kelson and wife, Zenobia of Norfolk, VA.; his daughters, Jaretta and husband, Duane Walther of Washington and Erica Walter of Houma; his brothers, Ronald, Rosalee, James III, and Trevor Richard of Thibodaux, LA., Anthony Richard and wife, Louise of Houma, Merlin Richard and wife, Linda of Houston, TX., Nolan Perio of Petersburg, VA., Claudell Washington and Randy Blackedge; his sisters, Betty, Cynthia and Sheila Richard, Wanda Swan and husband, Roy, and Gail Blackledge all of Thibodaux, LA, Betty Richard of New Orleans, LA., Bonnie R. McDowell and Johnnie, Teresa R. Dumas and Whitney, Wheilmenia R. Thomas and Gerald, and Marsha R. Berry and Sherman; and 14 grandchildren.


He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorthy and James Richard II; his son, Devone De’onta Richard; and his grandparents, Rose and James Richard Sr. and George and Elvina Broomfield.

He was a baptist and a member of the African Methodist Epispocial Church.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

He was a member of the Lafourche Bass Anglers.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
