Mirabelle “Belle” Freeland Guidry, 93, a native of Crowley, La., and resident of Morgan City, La., died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012.

Mrs. Guidry was deeply involved in the Presbyterian Church. One of her proudest accomplishments was organizing and leading the children’s choir. She also started the Presbyterian Youth Fellowship and numerous fund raising events at the church. She was an avid golfer and an executive secretary at McDermott Fabricators for 17 years. She is best known as a television chef and cookbook author. She wrote two cookbooks, Belle’s Bayou Bounty and Belle’s Country Cooking. She was an artist, seamstress, organizer and friend – but most importantly to her, she was a mother hen to her family, both immediate and extended.

She is survived by her children, Linda Stanley, Judith Weber and John (Cindy) Guidry; sister, Betty Gosnell; 14 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, V.J. Guidry; parents, Jay and Jessie Freeland; son V. Guidry, Jr.; daughter, Yvette Tingle; brother, John Freeland; and sisters, Elsie Hingle and Clarinel Hart.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at Atkinson Memorial Presbyterian Church in Morgan City with services to follow. Interment will be at Morgan City Mausoleum. (Hargrave)
