Percy Luke Morvant, 82, a native of Labadieville, La., died Thursday, Dec. 10, 2009, at 12:10 p.m. after a brief battle with cancer.


He is survived by his wife, Lorella Champagne Morvant; children, Craig (Pam), Karen (Horace) Elkins, Nelson (Denise) and Dana (Betty Jo) Morvant; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother, Elton “Johnny” Morvant; and sister, Eunice Himel.


He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Edgar and Julia Morvant; parents, Nelson and Louise Diaz Morvant; brothers, Milton “Frank” and Leroy Morvant; and sister, Irene Thibodeaux.

A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, Morvant served in Guam and was awarded the WWII Victory Medal. After graduating from Soule Business College and taking addition courses at Delgado Community College and Tulane University, he was named safety director for Standard Dredging Corporation and safety director personnel manager of Zapata Corporation.

He was a 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus of Destrehan Council 3634, a choir member at St. Christopher Church in Metairie, La., and Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Waggaman, La.. For his work at Our Lady of the Angels, he was given the Order of St. Louis Medallion.

He is buried at Garden of Memories in Metairie.
