Dr. Pete H. Rhymes, 82, a native of Columbus, Miss., and resident of Santa Fe, N.M., died recently.

A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, Dr. Rhymes graduated from the University of Mississippi and Emory University School of Medicine, and completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Scott & White Clinic. He practiced medicine in Mississippi, Texas and Louisiana before retiring in 2001 to Santa Fe.


He was a member of the Episcopal Church, as well as the Rotary Club and several medical organizations. He enjoyed wine, stamp collecting and had an extensive Civil War library.

Dr. Rhymes is survived by his wife, Beverly Guyton Rhymes; children, Judy, Dr. Jill and Pete Rhymes II, Libby Corby, Kathy Hawkins, Jim Robinson and Ray Rhymes; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
