Rose “Ma-Rose” Navarre Nixon, 95, a native of Chachoula, La., and a resident of Houma, La., died Saturday, January 31, at 7:05 a.m.


She is survived by her sons, McKinley Grant Jr. of Harvey, La., Sterling Nixon and wife Gaydell of Morgan City, La., Ambrose Nixon Jr. and wife Joyce, and Edward “Charles” Nixon of Houma; daughter, Daisy G. Jackson of Houma; sister-in-law, Hazel Navarre; godchildren, George Lee Navarre and Darlene Duncan; 23 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren; and 29 great-great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her first husband, McKinley Grant Sr.; her second husband, Ambrose Nixon Sr.; parents, Frank and Lucy T. Navarre; daughter, Augustine Grant; brothers, Frederick Navarre, Willie Navarre, Palm Navarre and the Rev. Arthur Navarre; and sisters, Ruby Verrett, Julia Livas and Helen Talley.

She was Mother of the Church and was on the Deaconess Board. She was a member of Terrebonne Parish Women Day Association and was a Golden Social Aid Society member. She was a retired cook from Ardoyne School. She spent her life serving God, fellowshipping with people, cooking and caring for others. She was a lifelong member of Sunlight Baptist Church.

She was buried at New St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Community Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
