Solomon James “Gator” Falgout Jr., 61, a native and resident of Morgan City, La., died Thursday, Sept. 24.


Gator was survived by his wife, Penny Falgout; one daughter, Shayna Broussard; one son, Solomon James Falgout III; one step-daughter, Angelle Duke; two step-sons, Trent and Chad Duplantis; one sister, Sally Falgout; one brother, Danny Falgout; and 13 grandchildren.

Gator was preceded in death by his parents, Ida Falgout and Solomon James Falgout Sr.


Pall Bearers will be Randy Broussard, Solomon James Falgout III, Trent Duplantis, Chad Duplantis, Solomon James Falgout IV and Patrick Falgout.

Gator worked in many fields throughout his life. He was a shrimp fisherman, mud engineer for the oil industry, and a pilot for the fish spotting industry. He loved the outdoors and spent time boating, fishing and hunting. He was very compassionate toward animals, both wild and domestic. His family was most important to him in everyday life.

A time of remembrance and reflection will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, at Hargrave Funeral Home in Morgan City with the funeral service to follow. Gator will be laid to rest at the Morgan City Mausoleum. The East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad will conduct military honors.

Hargrave Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
