Vallie Bernice Matherne, 71, a native and resident of Houma, LA., died at 3:43 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2007.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Friday at Bayou Blue Methodist Church. Religious service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be in the Rogers Cemetery.


She is survived by two sons, Jessie Gentry and wife, Donna, of Pearland, TX., and Gorden Gentry and wife, Cindy, of Houma; one daughter, Scotty Ann Gonsoulin and husband, Jerry, of Houma; one brother, Benny Matherne of Bayou Blue, LA.; four sisters, Carol Breaux of Bayou Blue, Marion Matherne, Margaret Fisher of Chauvin, LA. and Aunt “Toot” Matherne of Thibodaux, LA.; six grandchildren, Jessica Coleman and husband, Matthew, Travis Gentry and wife, Amanda, Monique Fick and husband, Eric, Brooke Gentry, Marshall Gentry and Taylor Gentry; and two great-grandchildren, Carter Fick and Jack Gentry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie Joseph Matherne and Cecile Bernice Matherne; two brothers, Bernal James Matherne and Teddy Matherne; and two sisters, Genny Ford and Katy Hart.

She was a homemaker and a member of Bayou Blue Methodist Church .

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
