Verna Mae Talbot Heck, 90, a native of Labadieville, La., and a resident of Thibodaux, La. for more than 60 years, died Saturday, January 19, 2008.

She is survived by one son, Carl E. Heck Jr.; one daughter, Susan H. Schwab; one brother, Louis E. Talbot; four sisters, Willie Lout Chilton, Alma T. Deligans, Vivian T. Bartlett, and Janet T. Green; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.


She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Heck Sr.; her parents, Everett Talbot and Alma Folse Talbot; one son, David T. Heck; four brothers, Everett L. Talbot, Carroll Talbot, Richard Talbot and Douglas Talbot; one sister, Edith T. Denson; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Kenton Chilton and Travis Green.

Verna received a degree in education for Normal College at the age of 17 years. She taught school in Golden Meadow, after graduation until her marriage to Carl E. Heck. She traveled around the country with her husband and first two children during his four-year term in the Army during World War II. They settled in Thibodaux in 1950.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.Thursday, January 24, 2008, at Chauvin Funeral Home with a memorial service to follow at the funeral home chapel.

Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
