Vertis Youngblood Gandy, 89, of Winnfield, La., died at Winn Parish Medical Center Monday, January 28, 2008.

She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Roy William Gandy; son, Tommy Joe Gandy and wife, Teresa, of Nashville, Tn.; daughters, Mary Virginia Gandy Royston and husband, Kenneth, of Houma, La. and Joyce Gandy Davis of New Orleans, La.; four grandchildren, Teresa Tallon, Jeffrey Gandy, Paula Guillot and Dara Gandy; four great-grandchildren, Courtney, Tarah, Shawn and Calvin; one sister, Mattie Turner of Minden, La.; and numerous nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe Roy Youngblood and Carrie Crowell Youngblood; two brothers, Joe Youngblood Jr. and Thurston “Tommy” Youngblood; and one son-in-law, Jim L. Davis.

Vertis along with her husband owned and operated the Lone Star Café in Winnfield for many years. She was a member of the South Winnfield Baptist Church.

She was buried at Salem Cemetery.

Southern Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
