Wayland “Bim” J. Whipple, 88, a native of Bourg, La., and a resident of Morgan City, La., died Monday, August 3, at 2:30 p.m.


He is survived by his wife, Eva Dell G. Billiot Whipple; six children, Melva W. Theriot and Suzette, Wayland Jr., Daniel, John and Mary Whipple; 12 Billiot stepchildren, Elizabeth B. Cooper, Robert Jr., Eugene, Bertrand, Eva Dell B. Randall, Edwine, Mary B. Macklin, John, Paul, Timothy, Patrick and Joseph Billiot; five Faucheux stepchildren, Norma F. Duet, Lynne F. Duet, Rose F. Lee, Faith F. Serigny and Darren Faucheux; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by his son, David; wives, Rita Guidry Whipple and Virgie Leonard Faucheux Whipple; parents, Charles Aaron and Euphrosine Guidry Whipple; and seven siblings, Lynn, Weldon, Delmore, Maurice, Charles and Rudolph Whipple and Coralie “Kitty” Whipple Hornsby.

He was a retiree from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and a World War II veteran. He was a member and color bearer of the American Legion Post # 242 in Patterson, La., VFW # 4222 and the East St. Mary Funeral Squad. He was involved in the establishment of the Regional Military Museum in Houma, La., and a contributor to the Regional Military Museum Mural. He loved music, especially German folk songs. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Morgan City.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to service time Saturday, August 8, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg with a military service by the United Veterans League. Interment of the ashes will be at 3p.m. Tuesday, August 11, at Morgan City Cemetery.

Samart Funeral Home in Houma is in charge of the arrangements.
