Wilfred “Bill” Martin, 77, a native of Petit Caillou, La. and resident of Gray, La., died Monday, May 11.


He is survived by his former wife of 39 years, Drusella L. Martin; longtime companion, Marcia Vanderpool; six daughters, Mona M. Triche and husband, Randy, Debra Martin and companion, Glen Keiger, Bernadette M. Hebert and husband, Ray, Cindy M. Ham, Norma Jean “Jeanie” Charpentier and husband, Darrell, and Brenda Lee Thompson and husband, Gary; one brother, “J.C.” Martin; one sister, Mildred M. Fazzio; 10 grandchildren, Cobey Triche, Chase Triche, Thomas McDonald Jr., Seth McDonald, Kelly Hebert, Dillion Ham, Megan Adams, Katie Charpentier, Katelyn Charpentier and Justin Martin; three great-grandchildren, Jordyn McDonald, Hayden Hebert and Kenzie McDonald.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Theophile Martin and Louise LeCompte Martin; two brothers, Robert Martin Sr. and Edward Martin; and two sisters, Ledora M. Authement and Leona Authement.

He was well known in the Bayou Blue community for his vegetable and cattle farming. He was retired from Terrebonne Parish School Board after driving a school bus for 17 years. He was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8 to 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, at Samart Funeral Home in Houma, La with Mass of Christian Burial to follow. Burial will be at St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2.

Samart Funeral Home of Houma is in charge of arrangements.
