Ethel Bellisle Cunningham, age 100, a native and resident of Houma, Louisiana, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at Chauvin Funeral home in Magnolia Chapel on Friday, June 30, 2023 beginning at 9:00a.m. until the service at 11:00a.m. Interment will follow in St. Francis #2 Cemetery.
Ethel is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Cunningham and Jody C. LeBlanc (Glenn); her sons, Ronald “Ronnie” Cunningham and Gary Cunningham (Lisa); her brother, Roland Bellisle; her grandchildren, Jeffrey, Craig, Kelly, Tracy, Todd, Tara, Toby and Ronald Jr.; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Ethel is preceded in death by her husband, Ernest “Smokey” Cunningham; her parents, Julian Bellisle and Thelma Boudreaux Bellisle; her brother, Roy Bellisle; her sisters, Belle Davis and Gloria Martinez.
Ethel was one of the first to graduate at the new Terrebonne high school in 1941. She was a stay-at-home mom and a seamstress for friends, neighbors, and businesses in the Houma area. When the children were old enough to take care of themselves, she went to work for a physician in Houma for 7 years. She then stayed home and took care of her husband and family.
