Mae Frances Hutchinson LeCompte, born October 2, 1929; passed away on Thursday, November 09, 2023 at 10:17pm.  Mae was a native and resident of Bourg, LA.

Mae Frances Hutchinson LeCompte was born October 2, 1929 in Bourg, LA to Lindsay and Elodie Hutchinson. She was married to Louis (Buster) LeCompte and raised two children, Anita Marie and Louise Ann. She had one grand-daughter, Dr. Anita Dubroc.

Mae was a secretary for the Welfare Department for 38 years, retiring in 1987, a fact of which she was very proud and told everyone she met. She was a life-long parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg where she took part in many of its parish fairs by making cakes, and helping cook in the kitchen (where she lost her engagement ring). During World War II, she was part of the Civil Air Patrol in which she counted planes flying atop Bourg School. She was a member of Terrebonne High School’s class of 1947. She graduated from Spencer Business College in New Orleans in 1949.

She enjoyed attending her class’ reunions, even the later, smaller ones in Houma. She adored hearing the THS band at Carnival parades and she could still recite her alma mater. She loved making a garden with her husband. Mae was known for hosting family gatherings at her home for any and all holidays and celebrations (although she admittedly destested cooking). On Sundays, she liked roder-ing” to visit family and friends. She was a beloved Mama to Anita and they were each other’s greatest joy.

She was raised speaking Cajun French; she shared the language and culture with her grand-daughter. She was the subject of several research projects at LSU in which she recounted her memories growing up.

She was beloved by many and loved her family and friends. She is an example of a life well-lived. Her ninety-four year life cannot be summarized in one short passage, but know that she was fiercely and adoringly loved. She will be missed and remembered always.

She was welcomed into Heaven by her parents, Lindsay and Elodie Henry Hutchison, her husband, Louis J. LeCompte, her daughters, Anita Marie LeCompte, and Louse Ann (Michael) Dubroc, her brothers Roy, Leon (Chut), Louis, Bruce, and Rajie Hutchinson, and sisters, Virgie Prosperie and Audrey Martin, her best friend Delores (Dennis) Bourg Charpentier. She is survived by her sister Teresa (Lionel), as well as a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Russell Henry his advocacy and patience her life-long doctor and her carers Judy Use and Myra White. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Heart Association and Mass intentions in her name can donated to St. Ann Catholic Church.

Family and friends of the family are invited to her visitation at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bourg, LA on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 from 9:00am until service time. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held following visitation on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 11:00am.  Burial will take place after services in the church cemetery.
