Phyllis “Lynn” Ellzey, 80, a lifelong resident of Houma, LA, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 10, 2023.


Family and friends are invited to a visitation in her honor on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at St. Bernadette Catholic Church from 9:00 a.m. until a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held at a later at Central Baptist Church Cemetery in Robeline, LA.

Lynn is survived by her loving husband, Orvis “Bill” Ellzey, Jr.; brother, Nolan O. Barrios; sister, Yvonne Menendez; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in passing by her parents, Nolan Barrios, Jr., and Mary Phyllis Munson Barrios; and sister, Gayle Rose LeBoeuf.


Lynn led a remarkable life filled with profound accomplishments and unwavering commitment to her family and students. Armed with a Master’s Degree in Education, she spent her career as a beloved teacher under the employment of the Terrebonne Parish School Board. Her passion for education and her ability to inspire young minds left an indelible impact on countless lives.

Beyond her professional achievements, Lynn cherished the time spent with her husband and soulmate, Bill. Their love was a true source of strength and happiness in her life. Together, they cultivated a shared love for travel, embracing new experiences and creating cherished memories along the way. Lynn’s memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved her dearly.

Lynn was a devoted Catholic and was very involved within the church serving as an acolyte at St. Bernadette.
