Melvin Paul Blanchard, 93, a native and resident of Houma, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 22, 2023.
A Memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Juanita Labat Blanchard; daughter-in-law, Dana Blanchard; grandchildren, Jonathan and Shane Blanchard (Jennifer); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sons, David Blanchard, and infant twins, Melvin, Jr. and Malcolm Blanchard; grandchild, Christopher Blanchard; great-grandchild, Christlyn Blanchard; parents, John Blanchard and Nella Portier Blanchard; brother, Howard Blanchard; and sister, Bernice B. Thibodaux.
Melvin will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a dear friend. He graduated from Terrebonne High School in 1949, then was drafted in the United States Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged at rank of Corporal. Melvin then spent his career working in the oilfields until his retirement. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, well-wishes, and gifts during this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made towards St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in Melvin’s name and memory.
