The Nicholls State University men’s basketball team made holiday memories for 14 area children on Tuesday night.

The Colonels hosted their Colonel Christmas event in the student union’s Cotillion Ballroom, welcoming the kids for an array of holiday activities.

The event was catered by Bubba’s II Po-Boys and was organized by the fundraising efforts of Jessica Riley, the wife of Nicholls coach Richie Riley, and also with help from Michelle Aiken, Michelle Bailey and Autumn Parker.

“It’s so special to see so many smiling faces and to have that type of positive impact on some of the kids in our community,” Riley said. “A special thanks to my wife, Jess, for organizing this event and to all the people who sacrificed their time and provided the resources to make it happen.”

When kids arrived, they were individually matched with a Nicholls player to help construct a gingerbread house and holiday ornaments. The group then shared a meal, then opened gifts which were handed out by the Colonels.

Nicholls will return to action on Saturday against Culver-Stockton College. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
