Vermilion Catholic led the Houma Christian girls’ basketball team almost all game on Monday night in the Division IV State Semifinals.

But the Christian Warriors led when the final buzzer sounded.

And that’s all that matters in the quest to win the State Title.

Houma Christian pulled maybe the comeback of the season on Monday night, rallying from a 27-14 halftime deficit and a 35-24 deficit at the end of the third quarter to secure a 60-59 overtime win.

With the victory, the Christian Warriors move to the State Finals.

They will take on the winner of the Lafayette Christian and Southern Lab game in the State Finals on Friday night at 6 p.m.

“I couldn’t be prouder of the kids,” Lady Warriors coach Kathy Luke told a gaggle or reporters after the win. “We’ve preached all year for them to never give up. Tonight, we never gave up and it earned us a chance to compete for a state championship.”

Four Houma Christian players did the majority of the scoring on Monday night.

Kourtne Lee (21 points) Breanna Harding (15 points), Xariel Washington (10 points and Jordyn Marie (9 points) scored 55 of the team’s 60 points, which allowed them to erase the large deficit to secure the win.

Houma Christian sped up the pace of the game late, which allowed them to reverse their deficit and get the win.

The Warriors are one of two teams vying for a State Championship this week.

South Lafourche plays for the Class 4A Title with a semifinal battle with Neville tomorrow at 4:40 p.m.
