The Vandebilt Catholic girls’ cross country team is coming back home to Houma with the Class 4A State Cross Country Championship.

The Lady Terriers pushed past stiff competition at the State Cross Country Meet on Tuesday, scoring 56 team points to secure the title, enough to outlast runner-up St. Michael who had 65 points.

In cross country, you take the place of your five best finishers and add it up to tally a team score. The lowest score wins.

The Lady Terriers used strength in numbers to achieve the title.

Three runners – Ella Chestnut (fifth), Caroline Lindsay (ninth) and Logan Hamilton (tenth) finished in the Top 10 to help power the team against St. Michael, which had just one runner in the Top 10.

Also scoring for Vandebilt were Katherine Cazayoux and Gracean Schexnayder.

Also at the State Meet, E.D. White’s girls’ team fared well, placing third in the 3A Championship Meet.

Abbey Marie Ratcliff finished sixth to help power E.D. White.

Yesterday in the Class 2A boys’ meet, Houma Christian finished fifth. Antonio Delgado helped power Houma Christian with an eighth place finish.
