E.D. White coach Mary Cavell has won a countless number of games and awards since becoming the Cardinals’ volleyball coach.

Cavell will receive the highest honor of them all on Sunday, when she is inducted into the Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame.

“She has contributed so much to the sport of volleyball in the state of Louisiana, and dedicated her time and talents to numerous coaches and players around the state and in your community,” said Sivi Miller, president of LVCA in a news release. “We look forward to recognizing her efforts and accomplishments.”

Cavell will be honored on Sunday at a banquet in Baton Rouge.

E.D. White’s Lindsay Constant and Terrebonne’s Sierra Lyons will also be awarded at the banquet for their outstanding performances on the court as both were named to the 2009 Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association’s All-State volleyball team.

Constant led her team to the state semifinals in Division III.

The Cardinals were the No. 4 seed in the playoffs and beat Riverdale and St. Michaels before losing to Notre Dame.

The standout has earned numerous accolades in her senior season and was named to the District 3, Division III, All-District First Team, while also winning the Most Valuable Defensive Player in the district.

Lyons also led her team to the semifinals and a district championship.

The Tigers entered the playoffs as the No. 5 seed in the state in Division I and beat Destrehan and Dominican before losing to St. Joseph’s out of Baton Rouge – the eventual state champion.

For that performance, the LVCA named Terrebonne coach Chip Didier the Coach of the Year in Division I.

Didier won two state championships in his career at Terrebonne.

The longtime coach announced prior to the season this was his final season.
