EDW, Vandebilt runners place in cross-country meet

Area schools took part in the LHSAA/State Farm State Cross Country Meet at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches this week. Alex Breaux won the individual championship in Class 4A, while E.D. White won its fifth-consecutive boy’s team championship in Class 3A.

Breaux ran the three-mile run in 16:50, averaging 5:40 per mile. He defeated state runner-up Kenneth Pierce, of LaGrange, by nine seconds. As a team, the Terriers finished sixth overall, with 164 points.

St. Michael’s won the Class 4A title with 52 points.

In Class 3A, the E.D.White was a run-away winner, totaling 40 points. St. Louis, the second-place team, finished with 84 points. The Cardinals placed five runners in the top 14. Leading the way was Steven Cortez (2nd), Jordan Reed (5th), Paul Whitman (7th), Philip Grabert (12th) and Ethan Miller (14th).

The E.D. White girl’s team placed third in Class 3A, totaling 91 points.
