Christian and Caleb Williams were engrossed in a heated conversation just minutes before the H.L. Bourgeois football team was set to take the field against St. John High School.

But it wasn’t about their offensive playbook.

&#8220They (Christian and Caleb Williams) called me over and asked which superhero I would want to be and why,” joked Braves coach Randy Boquet. &#8220I was completely dumbfounded at first. Here I was, walking around with pre-game nerves, and they’re having a conversation about nothing.”

Their production, however, has certainly given opposing coaches something to talk about over the past few weeks.

Christian and Caleb Williams have teamed up with Jereme Lagarde to form one of the most formidable backfield trios in the state.

Through the first two games, Christian Williams has rushed for 347 yards and five touchdowns. Lagarde has produced 220 and two touchdowns.

Caleb Williams, meanwhile, has amassed 175 yards and two touchdowns of his own.

All three have been major cogs in H.L. Bourgeois’ 2-1 start.

Boquet’s recipe for success thus far has been a pinch of &#8220Thunder,” a hint of &#8220Lightning” and a dash of &#8220Flash.”

&#8220I’ve nicknamed Jeremy ‘Thunder’ because he’s the power runner in our system,” Boquet said. &#8220But he will run you over just as easily as he will run by you. I call Caleb ‘Lightning’ because if he’s exceptionally fast and if he finds a seam, he’s taking it (the ball) all the way. And I call Christian ‘Flash’ because he’s usually gone in a flash. Christian is so much fun to watch. He’s fast, but makes tremendous cutbacks. Christian will either run by you or make you grab at air.”

Despite their recent string of success, none of Boquet’s running backs are looking to grab extra attention.

&#8220We don’t really see one person as being the number one running back,” Christian Williams explained. &#8220When we do well, we share the glory. We call ourselves the three- headed monster.”

It’s one that has been putting quite a scare into opposing defenses.

Christian and Caleb Williams were clocked at 4.5 seconds in the 40-yard dash. Lagarde clocked in at 4.6.

All three have helped make Boquet’s Wing-T offense look nearly invincible.

&#8220I haven’t scouted every team in the state, but as far as potential is concerned, these boys have the ability to score any time they touch the ball,” Boquet said. &#8220We arguably have three of the fastest, most talented backs in the state. I’d put them up against anyone.”

Even Superman?

&#8220Those boys come up with the silliest things to talk about before games,” Boquet said. &#8220But they can look like superheroes with what they can do on the field.”
