H.L. Bourgeois’ offense came out and did what it does best: run the ball.

It was the Braves’ defense, however, that stole the show Friday night at Tom B. Smith Stadium as it held the high-power triple-option offense of Thibodaux to only 76 rushing yards (and a total of 140) in a decisive 41-3 victory.

“It’s kind of scary, because this football team is starting to realize that they are pretty good, and they are starting to understand they can win some football games,” said H.L. Bourgeois coach Randy Boquet.

Thibodaux’s Trovon Reed opened up the game with a 65-yard kickoff return, giving the Tigers great field position.

The Braves’ defense limited the Tigers to a 37-yard field goal by Drew Williamson.

It would be Thibodaux’s only lead of the game.

H.L. Bourgeois running back Caleb Williams (nine rushes for 119 yards and one touchdown) answered back with a 23-yard touchdown run with 4:42 left in the first quarter.

After a Braves holding penalty, Caleb Williams took the ball around the outside for a 53-yard run with 1:22 remaining in the first.

Not to be outdone, Christian Williams(14 rushes for 240 yards and three touchdowns) added his first touchdown on H.L. Bourgeois’ next possession with a 26-yard run.

Christian Williams closed out the game with an 86-yard touchdown run with 8:37 left in the game.

“We came out there and dominated, and did what we had to do,” Christian Williams said. &#8220If we come out next week and do what we are supposed to do, everything will come out right. We just have to go out there and do what we do.”

H.L. Bourgeois has rushed for more than 500 yards in each of its past three games.

&#8220If I wore a different color jersey, I’d get a little nervous about that,” Boquet said. &#8220A good team is starting to realize they can play some good football.”
