Just three weeks after landing on the All-Southland Conference academic team, Nicholls State women’s track athletes sophomore Marion Chebet and junior Charlotte Everhardt were honored again, this time by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association (LSWA).

Chebet was selected as Newcomer of the Year in the state, while Everhardt landed on the All-LSWA First Team for her performance in the 10,000 meters.

Chebet’s second place finish in the 800-meter at the LSU Purple Tiger Invite helped her garner the newcomer title. The Kapsebet, Kenya, native also ran cross-country and finished a career-best 16th at the Mississippi College Invite.

She is in her first full season as a Colonel since transferring from the University of Wyoming, where she posted a personal best time of 18:13.80 in the 5,000-meter, 2:16.50 in the 800-meter and 56.80 in the 400-meter.

Everhardt, of Metairie, earned the All-LSWA honor after posting the third fastest time in the state (38:55.62) in the Kansas State Relays on April 19.

That performance moved Everhardt into the top three all-time at Nicholls in the 10,000-meter run. She also holds the fifth best time in school history in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:07.00 last year at the Southern Mississippi Invitational.

On June 7, it was announced that the two represented Nicholls on the Southland Conference Track and Field and Cross Country All-Academic team.
