Nicholls’ men fall to SEC opponent, 76-40

The Colonels fell victim to Vanderbilt by the score of 76-40 in Nashville, Tenn. Saturday night in front of 9,513 Commodore fans. Vanderbilt came into the game on a four game win streak, and continued their course of action against Nicholls.

“We have to get tougher and smarter,” said head coach J.P. Piper. “We are going to get a couple of days here to find ourselves again.”

The Commodores (6-3, 0-0) came out in the first half and played like a fine tuned engine with a 27-5 run over the first 12 minutes. Nicholls did not crack the 10-point mark until the 5:23 mark of the first half.

The halftime score was Vanderbilt 39 and Nicholls 12.

The Colonels (1-12, 0-0) went into the locker room only shooting 14.8 percent (4-of-27) from field goal range, and 13.3 percent (2-of-15) from three-point land.

“I got on them at halftime and challenged them,” said Piper. “I thought they responded, and that it showed in the second half.”

After only scoring three points in the first half, senior Stefan Blaszczynski blew up with 16 points in the second stanza, and finished the game with 19 points and 10 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. Junior Adonis Gray was the only other Colonel to cross into double-digit terrain as he finished with 10.

The Colonels will not play again until they travel to Louisiana-Monroe on Dec. 28. Tip-off for that game is set for 7 p.m.
