The LSU athletic department announced last week that it has created the Relief-4-Blue Fund to benefit sophomore halfback Alfred Blue’s family after they lost their home and all of their belongings in a fire.

LSU officials say the halfback’s Boutte home went ablaze sometime last week.

Officials say Blue’s mother, Erica Clement, grandmother and three younger siblings ranging from ages 4 to 15 lived in the home.

There were no reported injuries from the fire, but LSU officials say the family was unable to save any belongings.

NCAA rules permit universities to accept financial gifts and manage accounts to assist student athletes in the case of “extreme circumstances … events beyond the student-athlete’s control.”

To assist Blue and his family, those interested can make contributions to the Tiger Athletic Foundation by going to www.lsutaf.org.

Per NCAA rules, the only allowed contributions are through this fund.

LSU officials warned donors that financial contributions are not tax deductible and those who donate are not eligible for LSU Priority Points.

Blue’s personal setback comes at a time when he’s begun to establish himself as a top-tier halfback.

The former Hahnville standout rushed for a team-high 72 yards and a touchdown in the Tigers’ win against Kentucky.

Blue has also scored touchdowns in the Tigers’ triumphs over Northwestern State and West Virginia this season.

He is LSU’s third leading rusher this season.

As a true freshman last season, Blue saw playing time, serving as a key contributor in both the backfield and on special teams.
