Many’s Tarkisha Wysinger finished with game high 19-points to lead the girl’s East All-Stars past Ellender’s Brittany Lewis and the West All-Stars 74-57 Saturday night in the Houma-Terrebonne Civic Center.

Lewis, the only local girl in the event, scored only two points, but made her presence felt on defense, blocking shots and grabbing rebounds.

Despite the loss, Lewis said the experience was worth it.

“I didn’t have too bad a game,” Lewis said. “I felt like I had to come out and represent Houma. I made some new friends and I enjoyed it.”

This was the first year the game was held in Houma. It was also the first time the game was not held over the summer.

East Head Coach, St. Michael’s Tami Robertson, said she was pleased with the way things ran.

“It’s been great, Robertson said. “Everything was clear, cut and to the point. I think having it (the game) now rather than over the summer; we were able to get the best players here.”

West Head Coach, Sulphur’s Helen Lefevre, felt the same.

“The kids were great and had a great attitude,” Lefevre said. “Everything in Houma was first class.”

As far as the game, the West came out early jumping out to a 4-0 lead before the East respond with a 13-0 run to take a commanding 13-4 lead early in the first half.

Wysinger had nine points in the first half alone and helped the West carry a 35-29 lead at halftime.

“Their speed hurt us,” Lefevre said. “They really dominated the offensive boards and we knew Tarkisha (Wysinger) would be tough to stop.”

The West never pulled closer than eight in the second half as the East’s speed prospered.

Episcopal’s Danielle Jones ( 13) and Mansfield’s Sharday Cotton (10) led the West in scoring while Wysinger, West Feliciana’s Asa Wright (11) and Broadmoor’s Jasmine Barnes (10) led the East.

“I had the opportunity to see most of these girls play and to coach them was a great experience,” Robertson said.
