Nicholls State announces 2008 football schedule

Colonels’ head football Jay Thomas announced Nicholls’ 2008 football schedule Wednesday afternoon.

The Colonels will play five home and six away games this season.

The non-conference schedule includes trips to Football Bowl Subdivision schools New Mexico State (Sept. 4), Memphis (Sept. 20) and Northern Iowa (Oct. 4). Nicholls first home game is against Football Championship Subdivision school Bowie State (Sept. 13).

“We are excited about our upcoming season; we have a balanced non-conference schedule that will better prepare us for conference,” said Thomas. “The Southland gets tougher and tougher every year, and each one of our non-conference games will pose a different challenge for us.”

Nicholls has a one-week break after the Memphis game. Then it is eight straight Saturdays of action, seven will be Southland Conference.

The trek begins at Northwestern St. October 11 and ends November 22 versus Southeastern.

The October 18 home against Stephen F. Austin will be on Family Day. The game against Central Arkansas is designated being as homecoming.
