In the final game of the season, the Colonels defeated conference rival McNeese State 75-63 Saturday night. Despite the victory, the Colonels did not get a spot in the Southland Conference tournament.

The team’s sole senior Adonis Gray finished his career with a game-high 19 points, some coming on thunderous dunks. The Thiboudaux native ranks 15th on the Colonels’ all-time scoring list with 1,221 points, averaging 10.6 points per game. With his parents James Favorite and Nadine Gray by his side, Gray was honored pre-game as coach J.P. Piper gave him a framed jersey.

Nicholls shot 49.1 percent from the field, getting double-digit performances from freshmen Anatoly Bose (15 points), Dominic Fiend (12 points) and juniors Ryan Bathie and Justin Payne with 10 points each.

The Colonels finished the season with a record of 10-21, 5-11 in Southland Conference play.

Lady Colonels sweep Central Arkansas

The Lady Colonels completed a three-game sweep by shutting out the Central Arkansas Bears 3-0 on Sunday. Sophomore Lacey Gros only allowed two hits and struck out 10 in the victory.

The Bears (2-18, 0-6) did not score a run in the series.

The Colonels (10-14, 5-4) scored in the first inning when outfielder Kori Butler singled in Kat Harrell from third base. In the fourth inning, Nicholls scored twice, first from catcher Nicole Smith’s RBI double which let Tory Lay score. Then Harrell doubled up the middle, allowing Smith to reach home.

Last Wednesday, the Colonels stranded 11 runners on base as they fell to 12th ranked LSU 3-0 at home.

LSU (16-4) scored twice in the second and once in the third, including a homerun by Rachel Mitchell.

NSU left runners on base every inning except the seventh, including the third when the bases were loaded. They also left two runners on during the first, second and sixth innings.

Shortstop Kat Harrell got two of the Colonels four hits in the game.

Those hits pushed Harrell past the 200-hit mark for her career, only the third Colonels player to accomplish the feat.

Nicholls next sees action today in Baton Rouge against Southern at 2 p.m.
