Meet Kindra Halverson, NSU junior middle-hitter

Kindra Halverson is a junior middle-hitter from North Carolina. So far this season, Halverson is ranks second amongst Lady Colonels’ volleyball team in kills and blocks, and third in attack percentage and service aces.

SN: How long have you played volleyball, and what got you into the sport?

KH: My freshman year of high school, so about six years. My mom (got me started). And my friends all played, so I decided to play too.

SN: Being from North Carolina, what brought you to Nicholls?

KH: I knew Casey (Wirwille), and she was coming here. We played on the same travel team, and the coach was really nice, so I really liked it.

SN: What’s different here in south Louisiana, as compared to North Carolina?

KH: The people are so friendly down here. It’s a way different climate. It’s a lot warmer down here all the time.

SN: What’s your favorite thing about south Louisiana?

KH: Probably the friendly people and the food.

SN: What’s your best memory about playing here at Nicholls, so far?

KH: I like the team this year. I think we have a lot of good girls, and we all get along really well. So we just have a lot of fun together.

SN: What’s the biggest difference between playing volleyball in college and playing in high school?

KH: It’s a lot faster, and it’s more competitive. Everybody wants to win. The speed is the biggest adjustment, and in high school it’s just more for fun. But here it’s a lot more competitive.

SN: What’s the biggest difference off the court between college and high school?

KH: You have to balance schoolwork with your practicing, and your games and social life. So it’s a lot more difficult.

SN: What’s your major and plans after college?

KH: Business administration. I don’t know what I want to be yet. Something in the data analysis field, probably. I like math a lot.
