The Tri-Parish area will be represented by six teams in this year’s LHSAA state football playoffs, but South Terrebonne will be the only team that does not have to travel to open the postseason.


In Class 5A, three teams from District 6-5A will play in the postseason, with the South Terrebonne Gators leading the way. The No. 10 seeded Gators, (10-0 overall, 6-0 District 6-5A) will get an opportunity to play in front of its fans at South Terrrebonne Memorial Stadium, as it hosts No. 23 seed Holy Cross (6-4 overall, 2-2 District 8-5A). The Gators enter the playoffs as the No. 4 ranked team in the latest LSWA Prep Poll.


The No. 27 seeded H.L. Bourgeois Braves (6-4 overall, 5-1 District 6-5A) travel to No. 6 seed Acadiana (8-2 overall, 5-2 District 2-5A), a second-place team in its district. Both teams enter the playoffs on winning streaks, with H.L. Bourgeois winning its last four games, and Acadiana winning its last three. Acadiana is ranked fifth in the latest poll.

Rounding out area teams in the Class 5A bracket is No. 31 seed Thibodaux (4-6 overall, 3-3 District 6-5A). The Tigers earned a spot in the postseason with a last minute 13-8 win over Ellender, on Friday night. They face No. 2 seed Fontainebleau (9-1 overall, 6-1 District 4-5A). Fontainebleau enters the playoffs as the No. 8 team in the latest LSWA Prep Poll.

Vandebilt Catholic (5-4 overall, 2-2 District 8-4A) will represent the area in the Class 4A playoffs. The Terriers closed out the season by outscoring their last two opponents 76-6, and earned a No.22 seed in the playoffs. They travel to play No. 11 seed Haughton (8-2 overall, 4-2 District 1-4A), in the first round.

Two District 7-3A teams represent the area in the Class 3A playoffs—E.D. White and Patterson. The E.D. White Cardinals (6-4 overall, 4-0 District 7-3A), winners of District 7-3A, are the No. 23 seed and travel to play No. 10 seed Parkview Baptist (7-3 overall, 5-2 District 8-3A).

Meanwhile, Patterson (7-3 overall, 3-1 District 7-3A) enters the playoffs as the No. 21 seed and travel to face No. 12 seed Church Point (7-3 overall, 2-3 District 5-3A).
