On paper, it appeared that the Terrebonne volleyball team cruised to a relatively comfortable victory over Thibodaux last Thursday.

But the look of disappointment etched across Chip Didier’s face following the match was proof that the win didn’t come easy.

&#8220It wasn’t a matter of what Thibodaux was going to do to us, it was a matter of what we were going to do to ourselves,” the Terrebonne coach explained in reference to sloppy performance that included 11 total service errors.

Terrebonne (15-4, 4-1 through Tuesday) took all three games (25-15, 25-17, 25-17), but had to survive a late rally by Thibodaux (8-9, 3-3) to preserve the win.

&#8220After they (Thibodaux players) got the jitters out, they finally started to play together as a team,” said Thibodaux coach Allison Tauzin. &#8220And once they do that all three games, consistently, we’ll be a lot better off.”

Sophomore Sierra Lyons led the Terrebonne Lady Tigers with 15 kills. Sophomore Danielle Liner added 32 assists.

&#8220Sierra is a great player,” Tauzin added. &#8220For being a sophomore, she has really great control over the ball and everything. She’s a really awesome player and she’s able to hit the ball really well.”

Didier wasn’t satisfied with what he deemed to be a sub-par performance and added that he would consider reshuffling his lineup as the squad prepares for tougher adversaries in H.L. Bourgeois (Tuesday) and Assumption on Thursday.

The results of the H.L. Bourgeois game were unavailable by press time.

&#8220Eventually what’s going to happen is some of our JV players are going to take varsity spots,” Didier said. &#8220If a sophomore can do what a junior or senior can do, we’re going to start putting them in the game.

&#8220They (Didier’s players) have to be more consistent at what they do, and they’re just not doing it yet.”

Sloppy passing was one of Didier’s chief concerns.

&#8220If we could pass the ball well, we have the hitters who can put the ball away,” he said. &#8220But you have to be able to get it to the setter.”

Tauzin attributed the loss to mental mistakes.

&#8220That’s been our downfall all season,” she said. &#8220We came out and were ready to play, but a lot of the mental mistakes and non-forced errors are what kills us every single game. We need to learn to minimize those and take advantage of what they’re giving us.”

Terrebonne defeated Thibodaux in the JV game 2-1 (14-25, 25-6, 15-9).
