Luckily, there are numerous public pools in the area open until the school year begins. A few will stay open even beyond.
Put your tax dollars to use and visit a local public pool near you.
TERREBONNE PARISH
• Grand Caillou Swimming Pool. 102 Chippy Lane, Dulac. Open Tuesday through Thursday, Saturday and Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. Four lifeguards on duty. Cost: $1 per person. Phone: (985) 563-4955. Closes July 31.
• Montegut Swimming Pool. 107 Recreation Drive, Montegut. Open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 2 to 5 p.m., and Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Four lifeguards on duty. Cost: $1 per person. Phone: (985) 594-3174. Closes Aug. 2.
• Chauvin Swimming Pool. 108 S. Rec 7 Court, Chauvin. Open Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. Four lifeguards on duty. Cost: $1.25 per person. Phone: (985) 594-4242. Closes July 31.
• Bayou Black Swimming Pool. 3688 Southdown Mandalay Road. Open Tuesday and Thursday (Buddy Day, $3 for first person, $1.50 each additional person), from noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday (Family Night), from 6 to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday, from noon to 4 p.m. and (unless there is a swim meet) 5 to 9 p.m., as well as Sunday, from 1 to 6 p.m. Water aerobics are held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Four lifeguards on duty. • Dularge Pool. 1330 Doctor Beatrous Road, Theriot. Open Monday and Wednesday, from 4 to 8 pm., and on Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m. There are 10 water safety instructors/certified lifeguards and 4 lifeguard teacher-instructors. Four rotate into the big pool and two rotate into the baby pool at any particular time. Cost: $2 per person. Closes July 31. Phone: (985) 879-4340.
• Dumas Pool. 301 West Tunnel Blvd., Houma. Open Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. Five to seven lifeguards on duty. Cost: $2 per person. Phone: (985) 850-4676. Closes July 31.
• East Houma Pool. 126 Boundary Road, Houma. Open Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 5 p.m. Eight to 11 lifeguards on duty. Cost: $2 per person. Offers water aerobics and Family Night swimming (children must be accompanied by parents) Monday, Wednesday and Thurs-day from 7 to 8 p.m. Cost: $1 per person. Closes July 31.
LAFOURCHE PARISH
• Cut Off Youth Center. 205 West 79th St., Cut Off. Open Monday through Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m. Three to five lifeguards on duty. Cost: $3 per person. Phone: (985) 632-3991. Pool closes before school starts.
• Larose Civic Center Pool. 307 E. Fifth St., Larose. Open Monday through Thursday, from 4 to 6 p.m. Two to three lifeguards on duty. Cost: $3 per person. Phone: (985) 693-7355. Closes when it gets too cold.
• Lockport Swimming Pool. 714 Columbus St., Lockport. Open Monday through Friday, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Three to four lifeguards on duty. Cost: $1 for children ages 10 and under; $2 for ages 11 to 16, and $3 for ages 17 and older. Phone: (985) 532-5081. Closes July 31.
• Golden Meadow Pool. 100 Ena Dr., Golden Meadow. Open Tuesday through Sunday, from 1 to 4 p.m. Three to four lifeguards on duty. Cost: $3 for children and $4 for adults. Children under age five must be accompanied by an adult to swim. Phone: (985) 475-4730. Closes July 29.
• Thibodaux Municipal Pool, 737 Goode St. Open Monday through Saturday, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Four lifeguards on duty. Cost: $1 for the baby pool and $3 for regular pool. Phone: (985) 446-7240. Closes Aug. 2.
ST. MARY PARISH
• Morgan City Public Pool. 611 East Blvd. Open daily from 2 to 4 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Six lifeguards on duty.
