The Central Lafourche Trojans wasted no time in setting the tone if its opening-round playoff game against West Jefferson, last Saturday in Mathews.


The Trojans scored goals in the 2nd, 4th and 8th minutes to establish an early 3-0 lead that they would never relinquish, en route to a blowout 10-1 victory. West Jefferson answered in the 15th minute with an Oscar Archaga goal, but that would be all the Buccaneers could muster on the afternoon.

“We didn’t know much about West Jefferson coming in,” said Trojans coach Adrian Garcia. “We came our here, we played hard and we’re moving on into the second round.”


After Matt Labat scored the 2nd-minute goal, Neil Adams put in a 4th-minute header to make it 2-0.


A goal in the 8th minute put the Trojans ahead 3-0.

West Jefferson made the score 3-1 in the 15th minute, but Clint Blanchard answered with an 18th minute goal to make it 4-1. Neither team scored again until the 34th minute, when Neil Adams put in his second goal of the game, making it 5-1.


Adams scored three goals on the afternoon.


A goal in the 35th minute made it 6-1, which is what the score was at halftime.

Garcia said he was pleased with his team’s ability to finish off their shots. “Right now we’re actually making goals,” he said. “We’re not taking 50 shots and making three. Our percentages are pretty good, and that’s what I like to see. Also, our intensity is pretty high.”


The Trojans added second half goals in the 52nd, 57th, 62nd and 68th minutes.


The final two goals came on penalty kicks, with Cody Plaisance capping off the scoring to make it 10-1.

H.L. Bourgeois 2, Hahnville 0

The H.L. Bourgeois Braves kicked off their playoff season by defeating former district rival Hahnville, 2-0. The Braves got goals from Kerry Guidry and Dustin McClendon.

With the win, the Braves will host Rummel.

Vandebilt 10, Abbeville 1

The defending state champion Terriers picked up where they left off in 2006, defeating Abbeville 10-1 in the Bi-District round of the playoffs.

Keying the was T.J. Freeman, who scored three goals in the first 15 minutes of the match.

The Terriers will host Chalmette in the second round of the playoffs.

E.D. White 5, Karr 1

The Cardinals earned a convincing victory over Karr, pulling out a 5-1 win in the Bi-District round of the playoffs. With the win, the Cardinals will host St. Thomas Aquinas in the Regional round of the playoffs.
