Arguably the best local arm in the 2018 high school baseball season has found his home for the future.

South Lafourche senior lefty Blake Ougel signed with Baton Rouge Community College on Thursday morning at a ceremony attended by teammates, classmates, family and coaches.

Ougel was a monster on the mound for South Lafourche this season, helping to lead the team to a 27-win season and a berth in the Class 4A State Quarterfinals.

Ougel was absolutely dominant in 13 starts, posting an 11-2 record with a 0.99 ERA.

The senior pitcher worked 77.1 innings and allowed just 11 earned runs. He struck out 73 hitters and limited opponents to just a .191 batting average.

In big games, Ougel was at his best.

In district play, he was 4-0 in 4 starts with a 0.79 ERA. In the playoffs, he was 2-1 with a 0.77 ERA.

“He’s been everything we could ask for and more,” South Lafourche baseball coach Andrew Ravaglia said. “We’d put him up against any of the top arms in the state.”

Ougel received interest from several smaller programs in the Southeast, but chose BRCC because of the opportunity to play as a freshman.

Ougel said his plan is to pitch for his new school for two seasons before signing with a four-year program later in his career.

Ougel has a fastball that hovers in the low-80s, but he is still building up arm strength after missing almost all of his junior season with an injury. He has a plus-change-up, a solid curveball and a dominant two-strike slider.
