Nicholls girls’ basketball coach DoBee Plaisance just keeps on making history.
The Colonels coach won her 100th game with the school last night, scoring a 76-60 road triumph over Southeastern Louisiana – the team’s eighth win of the season.
The victory was special for Plaisance, because she’s now the first coach in the history of Nicholls women’s basketball to reach the 100-win plateau.
Plaisance is already the school’s all-time wins leader – an honor she earned last season when she eclipsed Ben Abadie, who was the previous leader with 89 victories.
Plaisance’s 100th triumph was arguably the best game Nicholls has played all season – especially in the second half.
Southeastern controlled the pace early in the game, slowing Nicholls offense and rolling to a 37-31 halftime lead.
But in the second half, Nicholls took over.
The Colonels outscored the Lions 25-11 in the third quarter, which erased the halftime deficit and gave Nicholls a 56-48 lead.
In the final 10 minutes of play, the Colonels continued that momentum and put the game away for good, extending the lead to double digits, then bringing it to its final margin.
Nicholls shot 45.2 percent from the field in the win – one of the team’s most balanced scoring efforts of the season.
Five players scored in double figures in the win, led by freshman Tykeria Williams, who had 17 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Also pitching in were Taylor Morrison (15 points), Emani White (14 points), Lockport native Cassidy Barrios (13 points) and Tia Charles (11 points).
With the win, the Colonels are now 5-5 in Southland Conference play.
Nicholls will look to improve on that mark on Saturday when they travel to take on New Orleans.
