Looking for something to do over the Easter weekend?

There will be crucial softball and baseball games played over on the campus of Nicholls State University.

The Nicholls softball team will host McNeese State, beginning on Thursday night in a series with huge implications on the Southland Conference Championship chase.

The Colonels enter the series with a sparkling 12-3 record in Southland play, after taking two-of-three games from Incarnate Word this past weekend.

But McNeese has been even better.

The Cowgirls are 14-1 in Southland play and lead the Colonels by two games.

Friday night’s game will start at 6 p.m. at the Nicholls Softball Complex. It is Staff-Faculty Appreciation Night at the ballpark.

After the night game, the teams will play an afternoon doubleheader on Saturday with the first game scheduled for noon and game two set for 2 p.m.

Regardless of how the series goes, it’s widely expected that the Colonels and Cowgirls will be the two top seeds when the Southland Conference Tournament begins in May.

The winner of the Southland Tournament will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

While softball is looking to take over the top of the standings, the Nicholls baseball team is hungry to right its ship.

The Colonels will host Incarnate Word for a weekend series, which began on Thursday night with no score for the first game available at time of publication on Thursday evening.

The second game of the series is set for 6 p.m. on Friday and the teams’ will play a Saturday matinee at 1 p.m.

The Colonels are looking to get back on track and snap a six-game Southland Conference losing streak.

Check The Times on Wednesday for updates on how the teams did in their busy weekends.
