It’s official – the River Parishes have again invaded Class 5A’s Bayou District.
The LHSAA officially posted football schedules for the 2013 season on its official website.
In the first week of district play, the area’s 5A district will all host its new competitors.
On Sept. 27, the seven-week grind will officially begin, as Hahnville travels to play Terrebonne, Destrehan travels to play a road tilt with Thibodaux and East St. John makes a trip down Bayou Lafourche to play South Lafourche.
Throughout the duration of the seven-week district schedule, local schools will make frequent trips into and out of the River Parishes.
But while those trips will be the new flavor of 2013, all of the old rivalries are still on the schedule as well.
In Class 5A, South Lafourche will take on hated rival Central Lafourche on Oct. 11.
The Bayou District’s season will end with Terrebonne and H.L. Bourgeois renewing their longstanding rivalry on Nov. 8 – a game that will be played on Terrebonne’s campus, but will be a home game for the Braves.
Just down the road at Vandebilt, the Terriers will enjoy a schedule with local flavor.
Vandebilt will travel to open its season on Sept. 6 against E.D. White. The next Friday, they will host Thibodaux.
The Terriers will also host Patterson on Sept. 27 before opening district play against usual rivals like South Terrebonne, Assumption and Ellender.
In Class 3A, Patterson will try to return to the playoffs by playing a schedule that looks stiff on paper.
In addition to the Vandebilt game, the Lumberjacks will play a non-district tilt with Brother Martin on Sept. 7 and also home games with East Ascension and Catholic-New Iberia.
In Class 1A, the 2013 season will mark the inaugural meeting between Houma Christian and Covenant Christian.
The pair of private schools will battle one another for the first time on Oct. 18 in a home game for the Lions.
